And the (Best Dressed) Oscars go to...
As a follow up to Kathy's post, I'm playing Monday morning quarterback on the Oscars, LOL. Those of you brave enough to have rendered an opinion Saturday, feel free to weigh in crowing about the accuracy of your picks, or to bemoan a clearly superior actor/film that was overlooked.
I'll freely admit up front that I made no predictions. It takes an act of Congress to drag my dh to the movies, and when we do go we end up watching a thriller (my favorite) rather than the movies getting all the buzz. My recent movies include Up, It's Complicated, Inglourious Bastards, Couples Resort, Edge of Darkness, The Invention of Lying, and The Informant. Of those, only Up and Inglourious Basterds were nominees, so clearly I was in no position to make predictions.
Like most awards, there are waaaaaay more categories than the viewers care about. Let's cut to the chase and talk about winners of the big six:
BEST PICTURE
The Hurt Locker
ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE
Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart)
ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Christopher Waltz (Inglourious Basterds)
ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE
Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side)
ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Mo'Nique (Precious)
BEST DIRECTOR
Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker)
Now, on to the really important details of the evening. How about these gowns? Want to render a vote on your favorites?

Demi Moore's dress was stunning!! I want it. Rather, i want her body - how much did it cost, BTW? :O)
Okay. hadn't meant to start out snarky - I say more power to her. She looks amazing!
I was quite surprised when they handed out best picture, I thought for sure that was going to go to Avitar.. I didn't see The Hurt Locker. I was really rooting for two other movies, Up in the Air and A Single Man... and wanted George and Colin to win... But I knew Sandra would take home OSCAR..
The dresses this year were all stunning and and I think my fav was Sandra Bullocks. The dress I liked the least was Sarah Jessica Parkers..
I loved all the dresses. Fabulous!
Cindy, whatever Demi paid for the body, I'd cough up that kind of dough to look like that! And the dress is awesome too!
Kathleen, I thought it odd that they put two animated films in the best picture category. I'm not sure they can compete with the regular films, but maybe that's just me.
Yay, for the Hurt Locker!
And thanks, Kylie, for putting up the most important stuff like the dresses! Hmm, I think I like Rachel McAdams and Kristen Stewart the best. Demi's is pretty to. What is Sarah Jessica Parker trying to look like, another statue? :-)
I was pleasantly surprised by the awards for The Hurt Locker and Kathrine Bigelow. Hooray!
Best dressed male--Ben Stiller. I didn't see Avatar, but I doubt anyone in the movie topped his presentation for makeup.
Seriously, Penelope Cruz looked stunning as always. Charlize Theron looked silly with the roses on the boobs. From where the sun now stands, I promise never to compare nipples to rosebuds. If I have in the past, I apologize. As it turns out, they don't look so great in full bloom.
the dresses. that's what I tune in for. I like all these except for Vera Farmiga. Could they have ripped any more ruffles out of the 80's and slapped it on her dress? Also, don't like SJP's either. and her hair was awful. she needed hairspray for all the flyaways.
Kathy - Nipples and rose buds. you crack me up!! LOL
Michele, I think Sarah Jessica Parker prides herself on being trendy. She said the dress was a loan from the designer and she had to give it back. I thought it was interesting but if it were me I wouldn't mind giving it back!
I'm looking forward to seeing The Hurt Locker. Hadn't heard about it.
LOL, Kathy! Charlize Theron needs a new designer. Or a new buyer. She gets worst dressed annually, it seems.
Keri, my eyes were glued on the dresses, LOL. Not sure I noticed the hair, except for Meryl Streep. Her bangs were almost shellacked to her face!
Penelope Cruz would be the best looking even if she was in a paper bag.
Taking her out of the mix, I think Sandra Bullock looked like a a queen.
I like Demi's. Dresses like SJP's always surprise me. If you put as much effort, money, and time into your body as they do, you'd think they'd want to have a figure flattering dress. Or at least one that suggests you HAVE a figure.
Fiona, Penelope was stunning, as always. She always finds something to wear that frames her spectacular looks. Sandra looked extremely elegant, as did Meryl Streep.
Lois--I loved that dress too. I'm not sure I could put six hours a day into my body...that is a lot of work! I'm never quite sure what SJP is going for with her outfits but the dress was better than some of the stuff she wore on her show...!
Marissa Hargity is such a class act-- and yes Penelope Cruz is always fabulous. I really appreciate that Meryl Streep doesn't try to vamp like a starlet anymore. But I have to say, whoever dressed Kristin Stewart should be shot. The dress wore her rather than the other way around. It was waaaaay too sophistocated a style for such a young and casual girl.
And Miley Cyrus. . . doesn't anybody advise her to act her age anymore? She wore a bustier with a lot of ruffles!! I can't help thinking she's trying to grow up too soon. But then-- she parobably already has. I just hate to have to see it.
Betina--Miley Cyrus had a horrible dress, didn't she? Very inappropriate. It was interesting--every site I went to had different people on their best/worst dressed lists. Some that made best dressed on one site made worst on the other!
Wow on Mariska Hargitay!
When I saw Kristen Stewart on stage to give an award, she was jumpy! Poor thing doesn't have good posture either. I like the bold colors like Penelope's.
Too many frills on some of those ladies. And Sandra looks washed out.
