Guest: Donna Grant

Please welcome Donna Grant to the convertible today!  She wants us to think magic and do you believe or don't you?

First, thank you, Michele, for inviting me to guest blog!

It seems in every culture throughout history there has been mention of magic.  Some would say it doesn’t exist, some would argue it does.  How can something so widely spoken about not be real?  And if it is real, how do you prove it?

The wonderful thing about writing fiction is that I can create whatever kind of worlds I want and/or need for my story.  The world in my new Dark Sword series is most definitely filled with magic.  Both my heroines and heroes hold magic, though in different ways.

My heroes are warriors with primeval gods inside them giving them immortality as well as enhanced senses and the ability to control something be it water, people’s minds, or the very air you breathe.  It has been fun matching heroes to their powers.

My heroines are Druids, blessed with certain magical abilities that will aid the heroes in defeating the evil spreading over their world.  There are two sects of Druids in my world – the mie, or pure Druids, who practice healing and using their magic for good.  Then there are the droughs who go through a ritual that binds their souls with evil to create black magic.

In DANGEROUS HIGHLANDER (Dec 29, 2009) the heroine, Cara, has no idea she’s a Druid.  As a Warrior, Lucan is able to sense the magic in Druids, so he realizes what Cara is before she does.  As she’s drawn into his world of evil and magic, she must learn to control and harness her Druid abilities or all could be lost.

Here’s the blurb for DANGEROUS HIGHLANDER:

A DANGEROUS MAN…
He is magnificently strong — and dangerously seductive. One of the fiercest of his clan, Lucan MacLeod is a legend among warriors, inspiring fear in man and woman alike. For three hundred years, he has locked himself away from the world, hiding the vengeful god imprisoned in his soul. But then, a young lass caught in a raging storm awakens his deepest impulses…and darkest desires.
A DANGEROUS PASSION…
Cara doesn’t believe the rumors about MacLeod castle—until the majestic Highland warrior appears like a fiery vision in the storm, pulling her into his powerful arms, and into his world of magic and Druids. An epic war between good and evil is brewing. And Lucan must battle his all-consuming attraction for Cara—or surrender to the flames of a reckless, impossible love that threatens to destroy them both…

Tell us if you believe in Magic!  I’ll be giving away a signed copy of either MUTUAL DESIRE or THE PLEASURE OF HIS BED to a commenter.

I definitely believe in magic! There are too many unexplainable things happening in today's world. Could it be good luck vs bad luck yes but I like the idea that some people are blessed with good magic.

My in-laws came from Hungary where there are a lot of gypsies. My in-laws firmly believed in the gypsy's ability to curse or bless an individual's life.

As a child I believed in fairytales. Such a comforting world where good beats evil and everybody lives nicely ever after. A world I would love to know in reality as well. Growing up (or older) I sometimes found my believe failing, being hurt or disappointed it took me quite some time to build back up that confidence. So that once more I truly accepted magic. Now my desire for happiness, goodness and justice makes me a believer. I believe in the magic of life, of kindness, innocence and of course true love!

Hi, Laurie - gypsies? How cool! I bet your in-laws have lots of stories. :)

Hi Silvia - I still love fairytales. There's something so special about them.

Hi, cait045 - I completely agree! Life's little miracles is a perfect way to put it.

Welcome to the convertible, Donna. I'm not sure whether I'd quantify it as magic or God's hand but I had a couple things happen in the last week that I've been hoping and praying for so I'm definitely in the group of believers!

Donna Grant said...

Thanks, Debra! I'm pretty excited about the cover. :)

Hi, Kylie! Congrats on the good things happening. What a wonderful Christmas present.

I do believe in magic. I do, I do, I do! *LOL* I believe in everyday magic and special magic too. And I definitely believe in Harry Potter magic, but that's something else altogether.

Great cover...and I've always loved the name Macleod. (Ah, the memories of the Highlander TV series....)

Hi Donna! Thanks for hanging out with us today. I echo what everyone else is saying - GREAT cover.
As for magic, I'm kind of a fringe believer :o) Not certain I believe but afraid not to :o)..

Magic is all around us every day of our lives from the joy in a child's smile to the flight of a Hummingbird in the sprint time. I believe in the magic created by all living things, I believe in the magic in stories created to entertain us and help us through the dark times in our lives. I do not believe in magic that comes from Witches, Wizards Curses and Sorcery as something totally real but it makes a heck of a good source of fun books and movies and television shows....

I believe most of all in the magic of loving someone special and being loved in return, for me it is the greatest magic of all....

I have faith in God. I believe in miracles. I guess that would sound like magic to some. Merry Christmas, everyone.

I'm totally with Cindy here...a fringe believer, though I've had a tangible brush with what can only be magic. I will swear to my dying day that I saw a woodland faerie - not a cute pixie thing - but a real, live faerie in human form a couple of years ago. She was either a faerie or a ghost. Whatever. I saw her, my guest saw her. It was amazing.

At the moment I definitely don't believe in magic. If there were magic we wouldn't be in the process of an ice storm that's been flickering the lights all morning followed by the prediction of 18 inches of snow tomorrow. Needless to say we won't be having Christmas this year. Not sure when we'll have our get together.

Hi, RK! Nice to see you here. :)

Hi, Barbara - Hope is good. You never know what tomorrow will bring.

Hi, Donna! I'm not sure if it's always magic in the way of magic wands or spells, but there's definitely something magical just about love and the way it binds individuals and families and heals all sorts of wounds. Hoping you're having a wonderful week, and thanks for visiting!

I'm not sure, but I hope there is good magic in this world.

Donna Grant said...

Hi, Flchen1 - I so agree with you!

Hi Martha - I agree. Why not? :)

Hi Mitzi - I definitely think that if there's magic, there is good - as well as bad - magic. :)

I want to believe in magic, but I don't think there really is magic.
