Since I'm finally off deadline for a minute or two, I planned on taking some time writing a titillating post but you guessed it – life interrupted. We were supposed to have the grand kids this weekend but a couple of them came down with the flu. So, disappointment reigned and I trudged back into my office and went to work on the revisions from hell in between searching for an earring that I lost yesterday somewhere between home and the restaurant where my DH took me out to dinner last night to celebrate the NYT showing for Feel The Heat (thanks again for the nice well wishes!!)
Anyhow, no earring, some progress on the revisions, BUT now the DH has the flu. Poor guy.
Back to the earring – Even though I torn the house apart to no avail – I called the restaurant and asked them to maybe, you know, check when they swept. I know. Cockeyed optimist that I am I figured it was worth a shot. I even drove into town (very small town) and checked the parking lot where we parked, walked the sidewalk around the restaurant, etc. Zippo. No luck.
So, it’s back home again to tackle more of the dreaded revisions, check and comment on another blog that I’m posted on and I figure I still have all kinds of time to come up with something brilliant for this post when …. the phone rings. It’s our son. Their babysitter has the flu and since the two little ones aren’t in school yet, they’re in a bind. Absolutely a good news bad news situation: Good news, I get to see the kids!! The bad news, I have to pack a bag, quickly fix some soup for the hubby and write this blog before I head out for an over nighter at the kids.
Okay. I can still do this AND dig out a few more fixes on the revisions, but wait. Another phone call. Would you believe it? It’s the restaurant. They found my earring when they were sweeping. Oh Happy Day!! Stop what I’m doing. Sign a couple of books and head out (stopping at the Atm ‘cause I have no cash and I can’t just thank them for all their efforts with a couple of free books) and go retrieve my lovely lost earring. The post is bent but I figure a jeweler can fix it so I’m a happy girl.
Back home, packing a bag. Cat blesses me with a hairball. What a sweetheart :o(
THAT cleaned up, it’s back to transferring revision work from desk to laptop so I can work on it at the kids, finish packing and … oh yeah, finishing this not so titillating or thought provoking post AND write another post to have ready for another blog for Tuesday because I may not make it back home by then because on my way home from the kids Tuesday, I get to stop at an orthopedic specialist and get injections in both my poor, sore feet. (pray for me!!!).
I could go on and on listing little pitfalls and roadblocks that need to be tended to before I go but I think I've bored you enough. What I want to know is, when was the last time all of your ducks were in a huddle then one of those little suckers strayed out of line and ruined your perfectly laid plans? I’ll try to comment from the kids’s tomorrow but, you know, I WILL be with the grandkids and darn, they are soooo cute …
Here’s to working it all out for all of us.

I feel your pain! That is so much what life is like except completely different in my side of the world.
Different nits. Still picking at my time though.
yep it's life but it's wonderful. Just regret that I wasn't running ahead instead of behind and could have posted something 'note worthy'
2 are in school, and two are digging into pbj's - gramma's specialty. Does that make me bad gramma? just put a shepherds pie together for dinner though so hopefully I'm redeemed being it has veggies in it an all :o)
I'm lucky when my ducks are in the same room, never mind being lined up.
I had a very organized Friday planned, doing all the last-minute things in prep for our trip to Quebec on Saturday (for a week, during which our Realtor was going to hold an Open House, so we definitely couldn't do the 'that's good enough, because nobody's been looking anyway' kind of cleaning.
But Thursday night, my editor sent the last round of edits for my next release. Good by, calm day of prep. Enjoy the grandkids. We're hoping to get out to visit ours for his 2nd birthday in December.
There's nothing better than finding something that was thought lost forever. I've lost a few nice items but I've also found a few :)
Life is what happens when things are chaotic around us. Maybe it would be too boring otherwise. My latest arghh moment is when after babysitting our granddoggie, it was found out she had fleas (thought they had been medicating her) and now I have 6 cats and a house to take care of - ugh.
Feel your pain about the lost earring. I lost a diamond bracelet while Christmas shopping with friends in Branson. Yes, no need to tell me how stupid it was to shop wearing a diamond bracelet. However, I did. When I noticed it was lost, of course we called the theater we'd been at, Pizza Hut (our health evening meal), retraced our steps, looked in the parking lots, etc. Nothing. I decided to buy another one before I husband noticed it was gone. Never got around to it. We headed home, everyone with their Christmas shopping done and me without my bracelet. Honestly, I assumed someone would get my bracelet as a Christmas present. One night before Christmas, my friend Sandy called. She'd been wrapped the stuff she'd bought for her daughters and lo and behold, my bracelet was in the bottom of her sack! Apparently it had fallen in the sack while I was helping her carrying in her sacks. Lucky lucky lucky.
Hey Cindy, have fun with the grands. You really had a long or short detour (perspective is key)on your journey of well-laid plans. Glad you got the earring back, btw.
I feel like this summer, I had my plans set, but life definitely threw a HUGE curveball in to muck it up. I felt so relieved that I had my finances in order, at least for a couple of months. I made plans to do some driving around the country this summer, and then mom called. She needed money to help both my brothers, who are old enough to take care of themselves. So, yep, you guessed it. The money I was going to use for one of my dream trips this year, driving across country, was spent before I even started. I recovered and was going at a good clip until the end of June when I got a BC scare. Color me pink...I was so scared, but everything worked out for the best. Now, I am just taking things hour by hour, if not day by day.
Good luck with the revisions.
Peace and love,
Paula R.
Cindy, I had the earring experience in San Diego, but with a less happy ending. I searched for three days at a conference and didn't find it. Hubby replaced the pair when I got home, since it had been a gift from him. Still, I grieved.
There are times when we just feel like we've steppedin quicksand. . . and all our efforts to get out of in only bring us worse results. The best course is to lift your oars, pull up your anchor and float for a bit. . . until you can see solid ground and a better way to go.
Jupiter turns direct tomorrow. And stays direct for nearly two months! This will be a great time to move ahead and make hay. . . so to speak. Not that I'm an astrology geek or anything. I just read it in a column and figured--hey-- anything that brings hope and casts a positive light helps me! Blessings and good KARMA to all!!
Terry - I hope you have a great trip to Quebec and a super successful open house - oh yeah, and fingers crossed on the final edits.
Fleas!!! Oh no. We had that happen once. someone brought a dog to stay with us and THAT dog had fleas. Needless to say, cost me a LOT of work making sure I got the house fumigated and our own dog treated.
That was years ago and I always ask now before anyone brings a critter to our house for us to babysit :o)
Arkansas Cindy - what a COOL story. And what are the chances of THAT happening??
It does make us think twice, though, that's for certain
Paula - you are a GOOD woman to help your brothers out that way. There will be rewards for you some day :o)
Betina - just knowing you is good karma, my friend :o)
