Emmy Fashions

Okay, I'll admit that I didn't watch the Emmys. But I did get online afterwards to see what people wore :) since that's always the highlight for me. Which of these are your favorites?

30s Rock Katrina Bowden wore a teal Christian Siriano (Project Runway alum). Love the color on her, but not as big a fan of the design.

Another 30s Rock actress is shown below. Jane Krakowski wore Versace. This dress got lots of glowing comments from the fashion critics but still isn't quite as glamorous as some as the others, in my opinion. (This coming from a woman who spends most of her time off in sweats and shorts!)

If I were in the habit of spending thousands of dollars on long dresses, LOL, I'd be following Grey's Anatomy's Sandra Oh around to see where she shops. She always looks so elegant at these events, and this year was no different. The beaded dress was Marchesa. (And I have to admit, other than Versace the names of these designers mean nothing to me!)

Dexter's Jennifer Carpenter also rocked in the black beaded / nude Zuhair Murad. I'll have to check and see if she won anything. I love her in that show.

I'm not familiar with Rose Byrne or her show Damages, but the sparkling nude Valentino (yay I recognize another designer's name, LOL) has a really stunning hemline.

In my next life, I want to look like Kate Walsh, of

Private Practice. I think she's stunning. And she certainly looked it her strapless J Mendel dress the other night.

And for all you Madmen fans out there (sorry,
tried to watch it. Don't get it.) here's January Jones wearing Versace and doing the designer proud in a mint green corseted dress. The picture at the right doesn't do it justice. It's really fabulous!

At left, Olivia Wilde of House obviously embraces the 'show skin to win' philosophy and looks pretty amazing doing it. Something tells me that if she dressed like this at the hospital, House would be a little nicer to her.

So do you have any favorites on the page? Others that I didn't include? Does it sound like fun to be able to be glamorous once in a while ? Or are you cursed with my (Catholic) guilt that has me wondering how many starving children in Africa could be fed with the cost of just one dress like this, LOL?

Wow! What's with all the NUDE colors? On some, they look good but on others, it just made them look washed out!
My fav of those you showed would be the black bead. Gorgeous!

And THANK GOD someone else doesn't get Mad Men. I've watched a few episodes now - I DVR it - but for the life of me i don't understand what makes this show so special. Yeah, the costumes and props are great. And yes, it's interesting to see the show's take on 'life' in the late 50s and 60s but geezo, they never SAY anything profound or funny or insightful. The dialogue is flat and frankly, boring. So if it's nuance they're going for - well the show's got it in spades but I'd like a little something more to latch on to.

And Kylie - Congratulations on your new release, Waking Evil!!!

Cindy and Emmanelle--I'd like to suggest they donate their dresses for RWA wear for all the starving authors, LOL, but I don't think I can get down to a size 0!

I like January Jones' dress, myself. If you're going to glitz out why not do it big, right? Don't like the nudes.

I think dressing up is the only reason I missed not going to conference this past summer! LOL

And congrats, Kylie, on your new release!

Confession time...I did not watch Emmys either AND I looked online the next day for the worst dressed. That's my favorite.

But the ladies and dresses you highlighted today were gorgeous.

I don't get MadMen either. But I don't get the hype about Twlight, Buffy, or The Big Bang Theory. I guess it falls under the different strokes for different folks

Thanks, Helen :) It comes out next Tuesday so you'll be hearing more about it, LOL! I do like the dressing up part of RWA, both the cocktail and long dresses. My dh often complains that he never sees me in those clothes. Or any kind of dress!

Arkansas Cyndi, the Big Bang show is a big dud for me. I guess I don't find geeks funny, LOL.

I haven't watched an award show in years -- maybe decades. As far as designer names -- again, I'm clueless. Call me a KMart shopper? On a good day, JCP. Yesterday, it was Steinmart, where they offered 'discounted prices on all the name brands'. Hadn't heard of any of them except DKNY which I only remember because I always read it as 'donkey'.

Note to authors: If you're dropping big name shoe brands, or designer labels to describe your characters, it's wasted on me.

I love Kate Walsh, just think she always looks so elegant and put together. WOW on the skin factor~~I think you're right, House would be too distracted to do anything but drool most of the time, lol. Sandra Oh is another one that always looks so elegant to me....and, uh...not a fan of that dress that Jane Krakowski is wearing.

Another fashion know-nothing raising her hand here. I like the turquoise color but not the dress. Maybe without that hip ruffle it would look better? And Sandra Oh's dress looks elegant in its simplicity. So does Jane Krakowski's, but it could be elegant in a different color and not wash her out so.

I've read that some of these celebs auction off their dresses for charity. The group is called Clothes Off Our Back. They can't wear them again or *gasp* tongues would wag. At least children's charities benefit from it.

I do the same thing. Don't have the patience to watch the show. But I turn on ET the next day to get the scoop on all the dresses. January Jones' dress got the worst vote! I can't figure that out.. She looks so pretty.

Kylie- I go look at the dresses too!

I'm not a fashionista but I certainly appreciate pretty and I like seeing if what I like also meets with approval from the fashion police that scrutinize these poor women.

The last two are my fav and I have to say I agree about Sandra Oh. She has a grace at these events and never looks over the top but still looks "wow."

Wouldn't it be nice if they had one of these award shows casual dress and everybody take the money they would have spent on their outfit and donate it to a charity. Yes, the dresses are beautiful but I'm like you, I think about the people you could feed with the excess these people spend for these shows.

Maybe I'm totally off the wall here, but do they actually pay for those gowns and jewels. I thought they were there to advertise the designers and didn't actually keep the clothes. I know they don't keep any jewelry.

KylieBrant said...

Terry, when I'm dropping name brands in my writing I always have to google some, LOL!

Melissa, I think Krakowsky's dress makes her look dumpy, which I'm sure she's not. And does anyone else wonder how these women stay so *thin*???

KylieBrant said...

Marilyn, so all we have to do is find out how to glom on to some of those dresses after they're auctioned, hmmm????

KylieBrant said...

Really Michelle? I think it's glamorous. No accounting for those critic's tastes, I guess?

KylieBrant said...

Deb, I agree on Sandra Oh. She really has an elegance to her at these events that sets her apart.

KylieBrant said...

Linda and Terry, I'm not sure how that works. I know there's a lot of 'loaning jewelry' because didn't Winona Ryder just lose some or break some or something? I remember something fishy anyway.

Coming to the party way late. I didn't watch the Emmys either, and I see much to bowl me over here. January Jones and Sandrah Oh would be my top choices. Olivia Wilde's dress would be great in green--for a mermaid costume?

I wonder if you're either a CSI-type or a Mad Men type? Not that I've watched much CSI. I'm haven't been wowed by too many cop shows. I liked Columbo, Hill Street Blue...I'm sure there were others, but nothing I had to watch weekly.

Mad Men has interesting characters, and I think it's well-written. There's a lot there to make you cringe because it's so close to home for Boomers. That was our parents' generation. Really makes you think about social issues--civil rights, the lives of women, men's roles, the media, and advertising. And, of course, the relationships. For me, it's about relationships.

But like all entertainment, it's whatever floats your boat.

Correction. I *don't* see much to bowl me over here. Not that I'm any judge of fashion.

Love the bottom dress and wonder how/if it stays up.
