Welcome Maureen Child!!!

Hey gang. We are thrilled to have Maureen Child join us for a road trip today. Check it out .... there are prizes!! :o) Cindy

Oooh, nice convertible! Thanks for letting me hitch a ride, this week. Cindy, keep your eyes on the road, okay? Fine, fine, no backseat driving...

So, I’m actually here to talk about BEDEVILED, my new paranormal from NAL. It’s out this week and that’s the cover. Is that gorgeous, or what?

Speaking as a completely biased writer, I think the story’s pretty good, too. (And since I’m in ‘brag’ mode, Booklist gave it a Starred Review, so I’m not the only one who thinks so! )

See, I love the paranormal. The weirder, the better. Ghost stories. Legends. Vampires. The Highlander—(Adrian Paul, anyone?). But I also like humor with my weirdness. And BEDEVILED has plenty of humor.

The book starts out with Maggie Donovan going to return her ex-boyfriend's ABBA cd's only to find him being eaten—not in a sexual way, either. When it looks like she's going to be dessert, Maggie fights back against a creature like she's never seen before. In the incredibly clumsy battle for her life, Maggie inhales what looks like gold dust. Turns out, it's Faery dust and it's already beginning to change her life. Suddenly, she's super strong and has a tendency to float at the most inopportune times. And just when she thinks it can't get worse, it does.

Culhane, a centuries old Fenian Warrior for the Fae arrives to tell Maggie that she is the Destined Queen of the Fae. The only trick is, she has to defeat evil Queen Mab to claim the throne. No problem, except that Maggie doesn't know how to fight, doesn't have time to fight and hey, has zero interest in being the Queen of a world she never even knew existed until like five minutes ago. Plus, Maggie and Culhane have a much deeper connection than she knows. But then, Culhane has this pesky connection to Mab, too...

Anyway, I hope you give BEDEVILED a try and if you do, hope you love it!

I’m going to give away a couple of signed books to two of the posters here today, so tell me...What’s your favorite kind of paranormal? Dark? Funny? Vampires? (Fae??)

I like vampires, and werewolves. But my Celtic roots also allow me to believe, and enjoy sometimes, the faefolk.

I like romance paranormals with a funny, yet dark side because sometimes you need a little chuckle to get through that dark moment.

Hi Maureen,
Congrats on the new release. I love ghost and vampire stories. I got interested in paranormal after reading Heather Graham's ghost stories. I prefer darker paranormals.

Margay Leah Justice said...

I like my paranormals spiced with humor, not too dark. Vampires, ghosts, the fae - doesn't matter as long as the story is compelling.

Maureen, welcome to the back seat!

Wow, what a great premise for a book! I love paranormal stuff, especially FUNNY paranormal stuff!! I'm going to have to pick this one up quick and enjoy, enjoy!

You know, I surprise myself sometimes-- I used to hate the darker, edgier stuff, but lately I have grown to like it-- as long as somewhere in it there is a bit of humor to break up the angst and terror. I guess our tastes change over time! But I hope yours doesn't and you keep writing funny, sexy, strange and paranormal! Can't wait to read it!

BY the way people - Maureen had an important errand to run this morning but she'll be back later so keep those comments coming. she'll reply to them all!!!

Hey, Maureen! Loved MORE THAN FIENDS. You're humor, blended with the paranormal, rocks. Also adore your Kathleen Kane stuff with the angels. I think it's much harder to do humorous paranormal than dark and broody, and I do believe you have it mastered.

My favorite paranormals are the dark and broody ones, but once in a while I'll come up for air and read a funny one. Love vamps, weres and a nice sexy faery guy. ;-)

Lou, you're right. You do need the chuckle occassionally. At least I do. When I'm scared!

Jane, I got started on Barbara Michaels' ghost stories. WOW, talk about creepy....and addictive.

Betina, Thank you! Like you, I've only recently gotten into the darker stuff....which makes a nice change, but I do like humor mixed in.

Kylie, thanks. Isn't that cover amazing???

Cindy, you're a sweetie for inviting me here and for explaining why I'm soon going to be sitting in rush hour traffic on the freeway......but I'll be back this afternoon!

Hey Michele! My fellow Nocturne writer!! Thanks for that. And hey, you read Kathleen Kane's angels?? Thanks!

Maureen!!! Thanks for riding with us. Maureen and I had another fun ride a couple of years back at an RWA conference. There's no one I'd rather be with when we both think we have life-threatening blood clots. (We did not.) She's the best.

I think funny paranormal might be the hardest of all to write. I really do. Love to read 'em, and I love the fae. Congrats on the new book and the starred review from Booklist!

Welcome Maureen. The cover's great and the book sounds terrific. Although I'm not a big vampire fan, I love the fair folk especially if there's a fun side to it.

Hi Maureen!! I love the lighter paranormals because, um, I get scared really easily. LOL. Really, if I read something even the least bit scary, I can't sleep and I hear every little sound around the house and think the worst. Same with scary movies and TV shows. I love the Ghost Whisperer but I can't watch it! It's too scary! I guess I'm a wimp. LOL

But Maureen, your books are so funny! And sexy, warm and fun, too, and that's my favorite kind of paranormal read. Can't wait to start reading BEDEVILED! :-)

(Hi Christie! Hi everyone at RWTTD! I'm a lurker! *waving*)

CrystalGB said...

Hi Maureen. I love your books. I am a big fan of paranormals. I like both dark and funny.

Hi Maureen! You've found one of my hang-outs!

I like stories that hold me interest. Period. Dark paranormal. Fine, if it holds my interest. Funny paranormal (like your More than Fiends), get. For me, it's the story. The nice thing is that I can pick up a Maureen Child book and know I'll be satisfied at the end! (How's that for a ringing endorsement)

And I'm tapping my toe for that third Nocturne (darn Silhouette)

(I think I'm getting paranoid. Yesterday I THOUGHT my verification word was PANIC when it was PARIC. Today, I thought it read "LOSER" but it's LOGER. The next thing you know, THEY will be talking to me through the radio)

Hi Maureen. Love the cover and the premise sounds awesome. Humor is incredibly hard for me to write, so I'm continually in awe of anyone who does it well. In other words, you!

Hope it flies off the shelf!

Congratulations on your book... it sounds really good!

I haven't read enough paranormal to know what I do and don't like, but your book looks and sounds like a great place to start!

Debra Dixon said...

Welcome Maureen!

I love dark paranormal. I'm not much for the suspense-psychic stuff.

And I love humor if the humor is accompanied by a real plot! Fluffy books aren't my thing.

I love books of the fae. That's always a winner with me.

GunDiva said...

I don't read much paranormal, but what I have read, I've enjoyed. This sound like a fun book and is going onto my TBR list (I can't have a TBR pile because I'm supposed to be thinning out my collection, not adding to it), so next time it's safe to add a new book, this will be on the list!

I kinda like them all depending on the mood I am in. I enjoy the funny ones the most but sometimes I will read on that is darker. I do switch around alot.

Jill James said...

Maureen, love your cover. It is soooo hot. I love dark paranormal, but sometimes humor is good too. But, I really like being scared - don't turn out the lights - really scared when I read a really good scary tale.

Keri Ford said...

Give me the light and funny stuff. I don't like being scared!

Beautiful cover!

MaryC said...

Hi, Maureen

Great cover!

I like them all - it depends on my mood as to what I choose to read.

Also a big fan of the Kathleen Kane's angels.

ChristaCarol Jones said...

Hey Maureen, congrats on the release and the beautiful cover!

It depend son my mood as well with paranormals. I love vamp's, especially with a hot male one...something about them is just sexy to me, even if they are undead :P I also really enjoy the fae. Dark or funny, depends on my life at the time I start to read.

Have a great start to the new year!

Maureen Child said...

Christie! That was a fabulous adventure!! There's nobody I'd rather go through all of that with than you! =)

Lois, thanks! There are SOME vamps I've just got to have. Like Lynsay Sands, for example!

Kate! Great to see you over here!

Crystal...thanks. That's so nice!

Cyndi...VANISHED is coming, I swear!! LOL

Helen, thanks so much!! It is fun...

DTwomey, I'm HONORED that you'd start your foray into paranormal with ME!

Hey Debra...Like you, I like fun, but I demand a story, too!

GunDiva...aw man, that's so great. I can wait until you can add to the collection!

Hey Virginia, Hope you like Bedeviled!

Jill, I've got all seasons of SUPERNATURAL, just to scare myself silly...and well, the eye candy, too.

Keri, thanks! This book is definitely for you! LOLO

Mary C! Another Kathleen Kane fan! Thank you so much. I really enjoyed writing those books!

Christa, thanks. Hope you give my Fae a try!

My favorite genre to read is Paranormal, I'm all about the vamps! Your latest sounds like alot of fun, looking forward to it!

Anonymous said...

I love them all:) I started out reading the scary vamps, gradually included the funnier ones, grabbed on to the erotic tales, and then I threw in a dash or twenty of witches, fae, shifters etc. I LOVE paranormal romance and I would read every single title if I could.

Maureen- The guy on your Bedeviled cover is super yummy! The idea of a reluctant Queen sounds like a riot- can't wait to read it!

Anonymous said...

Im a all in kind of girl. Werewolves are great for that danger element mixed with teh cute furry pet angle. They are usually large and strong sigh. But Fae have a special place in my heart purley because they can usually fly. Who would love someone who can fly!

mslizalou said...

Hey Maureen! I love pretty much every type of paranormal. It's funny since I only started reading them a little over a year ago. Now at least half of the books I buy each month have some sort of paranormal thread to it.

Jennifer Lyon said...

Hey Maureen, I like all the paranormals. Light and fun paranormals are my favorite for stress days. And, I have to confess, I have a serious crush on a certain Fae Warrior in BEDEVILED! I can't wait to get my copy of the book!

Estella said...

I have Bedeviled on my Wish List.

I like the darker paranormals, but also enjoy the funny, Vamps and the Fae.

Maureen Child said...

Tetewa....thanks for giving BEDEVILED a try!! Hope you love it!

Lunaticcafe...(GREAT NAME!!) I too read everything paranormal. I just love the whole idea of different worlds and weird and wonderful stuff.....and Culhane DOES look yummy, doesn't he??

Maureen Child said...

Jacinta, right there with ya! LOL on the furry pet thing... and who wouldn't love the chance to FLY??

Liza...weird, isn't it? How you find a genre new to you and suddenly can't get enough?? I'm in a serious Regency phase at the moment......

Jen, Culhane won't disappoint! I promise!

Estella, thanks for including BEDEVILED on your wish list!!

Hi, Maureen, I tend to be a big scaredy cat so while I'm completely fascinated by the darker stuff, my taste does tend to run to the lighter with a humorous kick. And I'm a late-comer to the paranormal thing--for a long time I didn't try any for fear that it was all dark and scary. Now that I've started, there are just WAY too many books! :) Must make more time!! Congrats on Bedeviled! I've really enjoyed some of your contemporary titles--I'm looking forward to trying your paranormals!

Maureen Child said...

flchen1........I'm with you, I'm a big scardey cat. I read or watch something scary and all is cool until the lights are off and I'm trying to go to sleep! Poor dh...has to listen to me whimper. LOL.......

But the funny paranormal is all good. I'm so glad you like my contemporaries and really hope you give BEDEVILED A TRY!

EllenToo said...

I like the funny paranormals more than the dark ones. But I like shapeshifters as well and most of them are fairly dark.

Maureen Child said...

Ellen, nothing more fun than a shape shifter.....and I suppose most of them are dark. but wouldn't it be fun to have a light hearted one.....hmmmmm

To the Great Girls in the Convertible....THANKS for having me over to play today. I had a great time.........

Dina said...

Hi again Maureen,

Congrats on your release!

My fav paranormal are vampires and I do enjoy when they are funny, makes it more interesting but dark is good too when I'm in the mood. :)

Maureen Child said...

Thanks, Dina.....I do love a good Vampire. And don't you love being able to say something like that??

And dark definitely has its place, but my fave is still some laughs along with my romance...

Lori T said...

I really like them all...at different times of course. There are times when I love my books a bit darker, but I really like the humurous ones also. I love vampires, probably the most.

Maureen, Bedeviled sounds great and I love the cover!!

M. said...

For sure, funny all the way. I loved 'Angel with Attitude' by Michelle Rowen. I have not read this author before, but am always searching for new-to-me humorous authors, so thanks, RWTTDers!

Maureen Child said...

Lori, thanks. The book's a lot of fun and gotta say, that cover is just amazing.......

M, happy to have you give BEDEVILED a try! Hope you love it!
