Helen's Happy Hour

I'm celebrating. Thanks for joining me.

I just finished my NASCAR book, PEAK PERFORMANCE, and sent it off to my agent yesterday. This was the first book I've written under contract, and the fastest I've ever written. 280 pages in four months and I'm 2 weeks ahead of deadline. More importantly, it's a good book. Not bragging, just very, very, very happy!

So, in keeping with my post today on underwear :) here are a couple fun drink recipes:

Pink Panty Pulldowns
2 parts Vodka
1 part Sprite
2 parts Pink Lemonade

Or maybe you'd prefer a Bikini Martini?
2 oz Vodka
1 oz Light Rum
1 tsp Sugar
Juice of half a Lemon
1/2 oz Milk

Maybe a White Satin Martini is more your style.
1 oz Tia Maria
1 oz Galliano
1 oz Double Cream

I haven't yet tried these recipes, but anything withDouble Cream's gotta be good. I found a recipe for a drink called Lady Liberty in a Thong, but it seemed a bit much.

Anyone else have a drink recipe to share? Better yet, something else we can celebrate this happy hour? Cyber toasts are good for the soul.

Ah ha! Refreshing the screen works a treat. I now see our Happy Hour post.

I'm still in my office, slaving away. Doing the dull book work that every business, writer or not, must do.

Hmmm...should I be drinking and calculating?

My fingers have been known to get faster after a cold one!

Accuracy is overrated.

Debra Dixon said...

Accuracy is much over-rated, but everytime I promise myself I won't be a slave to it...well...something like a tax audit happens and reminds me why I'm such a weenie.

I still do our personal taxes and every other year or so I make some calculation error. No imbibing, I swear. One of these days, my DH is going to take it all away from me and hire someone.

Say, now there's an idea!

The Pink Pany Pulldown is really good...still remember drinking those in college. Haven't tried the Bikini Martini, but will have to give it a try soon.

In college we drank pineapple juice, midouri and vodka. You can do it as a shot or a mixed drink.

Equal parts coconut rum and pineapple juice with a splash of cherry juice. Don't know if it has a name or not, but man is it yummy.

Me do taxes..hahahah...hahahah. yeah. I don't think so. I just learned 2 years ago that if your tax pages has a smiley face, then you get money back. A frowney, then you have to pay. (and the way that reads, it sounds like I've been in the alcohol for hours)

Is the PPP a martini, Liza? I forgot to look. It did sound good to me when I was looking up these recipes.

Pineapple juice and vodka sounds good. Midouri, not so much. Isn't that melon liqour?

Helen Brenna said...

That one sounds good, too, Keri.

Yep, she shloshed, folks!!

Debra Dixon said...

Anybody watch Sandra Lee on Food Network? The woman has a new drink to serve with every meal!

Helen Brenna said...

Try saying, "she's shloshed" three times.

I have caught Sandra Lee a couple times. Love to listen to her. Watched her make fried chicken once. Mmm, mmm, mmm.

She always makes me think, "Gee. I could entertain graciously. I could. If I wanted to. But, I think I'll go read a book."

Helen Brenna said...

Deb, I have no doubt you could entertain graciously. Your DH could cook and you could entertain!

Debra Dixon said...

That is true. DH cooks. My job is to make small talk and keep them out of his kitchen. :)

Cooking is loads of fun! My cooking fav's in order: bakery, bread, then soul food!

I cooked for years in grandparents' business, so now, I have a problem cooking unless I'm doing it for at least 30-40 people. It can be quite a problem when I cook for just me and the hubby.

It's the cleaning I don't like.

Helen Brenna said...

Keri, Keri, Keri. You cook, he cleans.

Helen, that WAS the motto at my house and then I became a stay-at-home mom and somehow, we've altered into this I cook, I clean, I laundry,he plays with the baby alternate universe.

I'm still trying to figure out how he slipped that one by me.

Helen Brenna said...

The at-home-mommy syndrome. I'm very familiar with that one.

At least he's playing with the baby? Time for another martini!!

Sorry I'm late to the party. . . pour me a long one, Barkeep! I've been reading reviews. Agh. I know better and sometimes I still do it! Is there a twelve-step group for that?

I also did my volunteer bit this afternoon and was the only one who showed up! Fortunately it was a slow day at the hospital.

I was going to catch up on the writing, but this is so much more fun. Helen, congrats on finishing. . . though I could have done without the news that you were two weeks EARLY. Don't make me hate you, girl.

Helen Brenna said...

Ah, reviews. Betina, let's you and I start that 12 step group, eh?

I don't think I could get myself to do any kind of volunteer work at a hospital. Good for you.

And I can deal with you hating me. hehehe.

I'm signing off. Have a great night everyone!

Ah, I missed it!

Congrats on finishing the book, Helen!

I was at the spa, though, so I think I could be forgiven for missing happy hour. I was having a VERY happy couple of hours, actually.

Okay, I'll be jealous again.

The PPP was just a mixed drink when I drank it in college, but would make a good martini. Yes midouri is the melon liquor and it just maked the drink a little sweeter.

Ah, college. I fondly remember those days.

Maybe not so fondly as I think of my darling daughter heading off in 2 weeks. Yikes.
