I’m currently out of town for a funeral, but it’s my day to blog, so I dutifully dragged along my laptop. But last night, sitting hunched up on a mattress that would challenge a quarry in the comfort category, I realized the hotel’s connection was not the stellar sort that would allow me to post pictures. Now I’m not one who is unused to internet problems, so I thought I’d wait a couple hours and try again. (See where this is going?) A couple hours turned into most of the night and voila, it’s five in the morning and I don’t have a blog.

Blurry eyed and a little sweary (sweary is actually a bonafied word in my family--sometimes we have entire days devoted to swearing--this is likely to be one of those) I try again. The connection’s even worse. So I stumble out to the front desk carrying my laptop like a croupy infant only to find there’s NO connection out here. However, there are options available; I just need a password. Not to be stymied, I hobble to the desk for said password but… there’s a sign that states the night attendant has hustled off to another hotel to set up for breakfast. That’s right. Apparently the state of North Dakota only has one person qualified to be considered a night attendant. Thus I sit here alone, watching the dawn arrive (North Dakota’s dawn, by the by, is much more impressive than its selection of night attendants) and feeling terrible that I’ve neglected my duties. So I’m curled up on the couch in my pajamas waiting for someone to show up and save me from my transgressions.

Hence, my question to you is this: Are you one of those people who believes that sometimes the universe is trying to tell you something (such as, this is one of those days when blogs should not be written) or are you someone who bulls her way through and makes things happen no matter the circumstances?

Ahh look, the lauded night attendant. Happy Friday everyone.

Ah, Lois. So sorry. Hope you can catch a nap today. And my condolenscenses.

As for me and messages from the universe ... I'm the blissfully ignorant type!

Ahh Helen, the universe. Sometimes I think I hear a whisper of sound, but I tend to ignore and bulldoze my way to whatever I want. Maybe I should rethink my strategy though.

Lois--Perhaps the message was for you to stop long enough to enjoy that beautiful North Dakota sunrise! Hope you enjoy the weekend.

I do have those days that everything (the universe) feels like it's against me. I drop everything, things get broken. I miss a train or fall down a flight of stairs. Despite having these days I bull my way through and try to make the best of it. It's easy to sit down and say, oh well not today but if you try and in the end get it (somewhat) done there's this feeling of accomplishment that is very satisfying.

I feel your frustration. Normally, when that happens, it's also one of those places that wants to charge you $12 to use the Internet at all, whether or not it's working.

I try to be "good" about anything I've promised to do, but sometimes, I think you can just say, "I tried, and it's not working, so chat amongst yourselves."

You're intrepid, Lois, dear.
But then i always knew that.

Have fun on your hike down the Grand Canyon next week. Wish I was going with you. Well, not you so much as your hunky son :o) Kidding!!
Seriously, I would love to hike the Canyon again but will wait until they get an elevator ...

Pamela, yup, I've always empathized with the bull in the china shop.

Here's to all of us who need to make things happen!

EVerything is a message; it's just if or how we interpret it. I agree with the person who said you needed to see that sunrise. And maybe there will be an absent night attendant in your next book. :-)

Thanks all.

Cindy, I'll tell Travis you're missing him. :)

Lois, I'm sorry for your loss. And ALSO sorry the internet is giving you such a pain in the butt. Most of the time, I do the bull thing. I'm a Taurus. What else can I do? Take care of you!

Lois, so sorry for your loss!

I think we all have the universe against us at time and the best way to handle it is to bull right through it! I am a Taurus and we usually bull right through things and go on!

I'm adding sweary to my to my list of fun words. I agree some days just need to be devoted to swearing.

So sorry for your loss, Lois.

Lately I've become a great believer. I live 90 miles from Nashville, so when the RWA conference was changed to Orlando I was faced with the expense of an airline ticket. I debated and pondered and finally decided to just book it and eat pinto beans for the next 6 months to pay for it. Less than a week later I learned I had a sizeable credit with the utilities department -- enough credit to pay for my airline ticket and most of my hotel bill. AND I got an editor appointment with my first choice.

Hello Universe!

I do think sometimes we should just take the "hint".

I'm someone who bulls my way through to make things happen, even if the day is just really crappy and it seems like everything si going wrong.

Hope your days get better!

Well shoot, Lois, you didn't need that on top of everything else. A case of 'best laid plans', eh?

Don't worry about it. Hope your family is okay.

There are times when I do think someone or something is trying to send me a message.

I can let a lot of things go but then some times I just have to dig in my heels lol. In your case I would have probably given up.

lavendersbluegreen said...

Wow. Well, I guess we all had times like that... I guess it all depends. Usually I bull my way through (Aries)...

Lois, I agree with whoever said that maybe you needed a sunrise. My personal policy is to trust that the universe will send me what I need. Usually that works. but them my idea of what I need at any give moment is fairly flexible.

I'm not much of a "buller." I'm probably too much of a "wait-and-see-er." Too busy looking at the scenery to pay attention to the road. !!!!!

Sleep well, Lois. Big hugs.

Yes, Lois, I know exactly what you are talking about! I call them "Midnight Madness" days. The day starts off wrong as soon as you wake up in the morning, and it gets worse as the day wears on. The only thing to do is to grit your teeth and make it to midnight--then the day is officially over!

I think I would have posted the blog page but post-dated the thing so it actually appeared when I wanted it to show.

But I also would have wanted my computer or at least my iPhone with me, I'm hopelessly internet addicted.

You know what? It totally depends on my mood that day...sometimes I take it as a sign that something is supposed to happen or I'm supposed to not do something in order for things to go the right way...Other days if I'm feeling stubborn...then I just keep on fighting until I can get some form of satisfaction.

*hugs*
Anna
