The Eyes Have It

So I open my Sunday paper, and what to my wondering eyes should appear but this lovely cover photo. We were talking about the Golden Globes last week, and "Mad Men" was somewhat mentioned. I think I raved. But more than a few people I meet have never seen it, so I thought I'd offer some incentive. This is Jon Hamm. Not only is he easy on the eyes, but he can act.

'Nuff shown? If not, rent Season 1. (Season 2 ran last Fall on AMC, so it'll be a while before it's out on DVD.) He does take his shirt off. Oh, have I said the show is well-written? Nice bonus, that. Has anyone seen "Mad Men"? What do you think?

I have not watched "Mad Men", but I have heard good things about it. So I will have to buy the first season and watch it. Between my reading list, catching up on my chats and emails, and the programs I already watch on TV, where can I find the time.

That is what I love about having a DVD player, they are bringing out all these good TV shows and you can watch at your leasure. That is what I am doing with "Gray's", getting the DVD's and playing catch up.

I saw that same photo this morning, and said to myself, "So this is the show Kathy's is always raving about? Hmm...maybe I need to check it out!"

The man is hawt.

Oh, see this is what I'm talkin' about--manly men. I adore Mad Men in an--"Oh no, he's not going to do that?"--way. I love it's darkness and reality. And I especially loves Jon Hamm.

I love Mad Men. I'm so glad it's coming back for a third season. I read that Jon Hamm will be guest starring on 30 Rock for several episodes as Tina Fey's neighbor and potential love interest.

I echo Michele's sentiments - he's hawt!

Haven't seen it. What's the rating like? I have a young teenager at home.

I have heard so many great things about Mad Men and I'm mad (hah) at myself that I haven't watched it yet. Going to get Season 1!

Jane, I really like 30 Rock, but I keep forgetting to watch for it. I'm such a creature of habit. Once I get it on my mental calendar...

Helen, rating for Mad Men--the themes are adult, but I think young people can benefit from the fact that it shows recent "hisory"--although I'm of the opinion that you can't call it history until enough time has passed to allow for some perspective. We're still in the nostalgia stage regarding the 50's and 60's.

But it's so revealing when you realize that a woman's role was so different then. And women in the workplace? Yikes! Young people take so much for granted if they don't know where we were only a few years ago. Feminism has taken a bad rap lately. That's one of the reasons I think this is an important show.

Ratings are so interesting. From what I've heard about violence in shows like "24"--admittedly I haven't gotten into that one, but I've meant to give it another try--I guess I would rank "Mad Men" as fairly tame. I worry about gratuitous violence and gratuitous sex on TV. Really worry.

Speaking of gratuitous violence, we have family visiting from ND this weekend, and I caught a bit of a show my nephews (they're in their 30's--what I thought was wrestling. One guy was pummeling the other's head. I said, "That's fake, right?" They said no, it wasn't WWF, but some new "mixed forms" thing, and they're serious. Didn't look like "forms" to me. It looked like human dog fighting. Then I realized this was the thing I read about, pretty much street fighting, that's being called a sport and legitimized by running it on TV as a form of competition. People are concerned, from what I read, about the influence on young people. Duh!

Well, it was late at night, and we didn't have any children watching, but geez Louise!
