Jump Start Your Week

Grrrr .... I've been having problems loading pics on blogger both yesterday AND today. Anyway ...

I started this post thinking I'd talk (and drool a little) about all the young male actors these days that are so HOT! I figured it couldn't be just me 'cause I'm perimenopausal, so that makes it a fact.Young men are better looking than when I was in the market.

What got me going on this, you ask? My daughter was sick last week and rented the first season of Desperate Housewives. I know, old news for most of you, but it was new to me, and, well, I got hooked. I have no clue whether or not the show holds its own through the next several seasons, but the first season is hillarious.

In a nutshell, it's about four women, all very distinctive personalities, and how they cope, or don't, with life. Their relationships with friends and family are key.

I get the biggest kick out of Gabrielle, Eva Longoria. She's married to Carlos, presumably for the money, but is having an affair with her teenaged gardener, John Rowland (actor Jesse Metcalfe).

Teenaged gardener. I'm a cradle robber. But can you blame me? The guy is built and he's cute, cute, cute.

When I was a high school senior, there wasn't a guy in the entire town who looked half as gorgeous as John. Back then, guys probably figured they were ahead of the competition if they showered and brushed their teeth, right? These days guys seem to spend so much more time on their looks. Haircuts, clothes, working out, even teeth whitening.

So, I got on my computer looking for photos of young, hot actors and found something out that surprised me. The actor Jesse Metcalfe is actually 30 years old. They sneak by with him playing a high schooler by keeping his hair short, and waxing his chest and, most likely, his baby face. Although, I have to admit, he didn't look all that babyish in some of the photos I found.

Tom Welling, is another one of these older actors playing really young guys. He's 31 and plays Clark Kent, first as a teenager, and then young adult on Smallville.

YAY! I'm not a cradle robber!! I can't tell you how proud I am!

But then I thought about it a little more. Maybe it's just that I'm getting old. As I was looking through Desperate Housewives photos, it dawned on me that I'm much more attracted to Susan's (Terri Hatcher) guy, the new, single neighbor across the street, Mike Delfino (James Denton).

It's official. I'm getting old. Guys under thirty just don't seem to do it for me anymore.

So what's my point? I don't have one. Just needed an excuse to put up some eye candy.

Just out of curiosity, though, who's your favorite, John or Mike? Young or old(er)? And when you read romances, does the hero's age make a difference for your enjoyment of the story?

Hey, wanna find out which Desperate Housewife you are? Some of the questions are pretty funny - check out the quiz: http://abc.go.com/primetime/desperate/index?pn=quiz

I'm Lynette. Guess that means I'd better layoff the Adderall.

Though I have extreme aversion to the name "Mike", I'm going to have to go with Mike. It's the 5-o-clock shadow and unbuttoned white shirt.

You know, I think I prefer NOT knowing their ages. Then I can just pretend that they are the perfect age for me. Though I admit to drooling over the youngsters as well. And I was delightfully surprised to learn my two favorite guys who play the brothers Winchester as young twenty-somethings are both actually in their thirties. Yeah!

On the other end of the spectrum. I can look at Johnny Depp and know he's as old as I am, and be thrilled that some of them only get better with age.

Mike or John? I haven't watched the show for years, but I'll take Mike because he is older and a little wiser. (Though, if he married Susan, then I suppose that rules out wiser.)

I'm not crazy about the name Mike either.

Michele - you make an interesting point about the whole fantasy vs reality aspect of these shows. Knowing the actors ages does kind of bring it down to the reality level.

Who needs reality? lol

I'm a Lynette, too Helen! Aghhh! I think the defining question for me was the apology to the police officer-- all I had to say was I'm sorry we weren't all buckled up! Except that in my car, everybody would BE buckled up. I'm a fanatic about that.

I'm not sure who John is. . . and since (ahem) no photo was provided I'll have to go with the guy in the shirt and stubble. And yeah, the really young baby-faced boys don't do it for me. I need stubble, six-packs, and a hint of world-weariness in the eyes. I guess I'd be more of a Patrick Dempsey girl.

Hey, anybody else catch that great new show "New Amsterdam"? It's so cool that the guy "Amsterdam" has seen the city of New York through all of its development. Interestingly, he's not overly secretive about it. It's just that people usually think he's stretching it or being funny. AND. . . so cool. . . the thing he as to do is find his soul mate! It's a LOVE story. A for really romance about to finally happen, after 400 years!!! Check it out.

Hey Helen. thanks for the jump start. You did this for me, right?
I fall in the cradle robber category - but they can't be too young 'cause I like men, not boys. I like the gardener.

But, speaking of babies, what about David Archuleta on American Idol?? Now, it's mother love, not lust that has me drooling over that little sweetie. I just want to give him a cookie or something. What a sweetie pie.

And Betina - I LOVE New Amsterdam. The guy is hot and the script is great AND I love the graphics in the intro that runs the progression of New Amsterdam to NYC. Can't wait to see how this love story progresses.

I've been a Desperate Housewives fan from day one. Season 1 was great. Season 2 wandered off in some other directions, but Season 3 got back on track. Of course Season 4 was interrupted by the writers' strike. I'm hoping they get a few more episodes in the can before summer, but there's a real possibility they won't. John the gardner reappears briefly in season 4.

Not crazy about the name Mike but I love James Denton. Dianne Castell used to have a great photo on her website of him reading her book. Real men DO read romance. ;-)

I took that Which Housewife test before. I can't remember which I was, but I'm probably more like Mrs. McCluskey than the housewives. LOL! I love her character -- so droll and ascerbic, but a heart of gold. And after the tornado this season, she gave such a great performance.

Betina - John is the gardener character in Desperate Housewives and he's the first pic. I would've put more in, but blogger was being a pain both yesterday and today.

Have not seen the show New Amsterdam. Can't you tell how behind the times I am with this post? lol

Yes, Cindy, all for you my darling cradle robber!

Marilyn, who's Mrs. McCluskey? Does she come in after the 1st season?

I just don't think it's right to be prejudiced against younger guys. Ageism is wrong. :)

But my daughter and I have had the discussion about young men a hundred times when I used to drive her to high school. If you scope the mob you'll see about 1000 gorgeeeeeous young women. Then the boys come...pimply, scraggly haired, pants too short...basically dragging their knuckles down the sidewalk after the girls.

I don't think the scenery has really improved that much since we were looking, Helen. You're just seeing the creme de la creme. It takes 'em a while to age properly. Kind of like cheese. :)

I'm loving New Amsterdam. I love that the character is four hundred years old, and he just doesn't lie. If someone asks how many girlfriends he's had, he'll say something like '620'. And then person will just think he's a joker. It's great. I'm guessing the guy has an amazing family tree. His progeny alone could probably populate an entire small town.

I like older men. I think that Corbin Berenson on Psych and Bruce Campbell on Burn Notice look hot. I must admit that Brian Austin Green on the Sarah Connor Chronicles looks hot, but 35 is wee bit too young for me.

Helen Brenna said...

Ageism. lol, Lois!

That character does sound interesting, Michele.

Flip - I have a hard time getting the LA Law character that Corbin Bernsen played out of my head. Who I didn't think was attractive at all. But if I can forget that character, I'm with you all the way. Corbin is aging well.

The other two I'm not familiar with. I googled Brian Austin Green and he looks familiar. You like clean cut, eh?

Debra Dixon said...

Oh, Lois!! You were going to the wrong high school ! When I took my son to school, I was amazed at all the man-things just loitering about.

I'm an equal opportunity gawker, though. Age, as long as they're legal, is of no consequence.

Debra Dixon said...

Hey! I'm Edie. I'll take it. I think. I don't really watch Desperate Housewives. Is this a good thing?

Playground Monitor said...

LOL Debra. Edie is sort of the neighborhood tramp, though deep inside she's very insecure. She's conniving and scheming and desperate for a man in her life. That doesn't sound like you.

Helen, Mrs. McCluskey is the neighbor who babysits Lynette's children sometimes. She's played by Kathryn Joosten, who also played Mrs. Landingham, the president's secretary, on West Wing.

Helen Brenna said...

So you're Edie, huh, Deb? Good to know who the sexy, back-stabbing slut is amongst us! LOL!!

Oh, her, Marilyn. Gotcha.

Debra Dixon said...

Marily-- AACK!! No, I don't think I'm Edie. LOL! I did have some trouble with the quiz because I had any number of questions that I just didn't have a good answer (for me) to select. Maybe I'll go take it again. (g)

Hmm, I'm Susan. Never thought I'd be a Susan. Probably more a Lynette with touches of Bree.

I mighta picked you for a Susan, Michele.

Only because she has some very admirable qualities.
