Debra - The "Stuffing" of Dreams

I am a picky person. I can't help it. It's not that I'm devasted because you changed your recipe for corn soufle, but really? Why mess with it?

I don't mean to blurt out, "What did you do to the soufle?" It just comes out. I'm inquisitive. Really. Best to tell me right up front if you're screwing around with my view of how the world should be. It'll go better for both of us. I can be a team player, but I like to get a heads-up about the plays.

Don't deliver furniture to me that has a scratch or nick. I didn't pay for scratched or nicked furniture, and I will look. I don't take anything that looks like a box has been retaped. Nope. "Go get me one from the back, please!" I'm polite, but I'm picky.

Don't change brands of sour cream. Only get the "right" brand of onion dip.

Don't leave my car empty. Or trash in it.

I can't order anything off the menu as-is.

Eventually Amazon will learn to stop sending me books with bent corners and hang-nail spines. Hate 'em. Won't keep 'em.

Where is all this leading? To a king-sized mattress. I told my husband to get a mattress. (Please, hold the guffaws until I'm finished. I know that was stupid...NOW.) He did. Only it was more of a 7-ply piece of birch marine grade plywood.

In the beginning I couldn't make it a whole night without decamping for the den and the recliner. He, who sleeps on his back, was snoozing like a baby and getting his best sleep ever. Meanwhile my spine was all out of whack from sleeping on my side. My bonny good nature was whacked too. Just ask hubby.

If I hadn't had to go out of town on business, I think there would have been bloodshed. (His.) But I did and got the most fabulous night's sleep. I'm sure the maid thought a bomb had gone off in the room because I tore everything apart the next morning to find out the magic combination of bedding. My bet was on the down featherbed. Ooh la and la. Don't let the word "feather" fool you here. We are talking "down." Fluffy scrumptious heaven in a bag. I called the manufacturer and had them ship that puppy ASAP and heck! Throw in a couple of down pillows.
I am now sleeping the sleep of the instantly gratified consumer. I am back in dreamland where the men are yummy and bon bons are necessary to survival. I highly recommend it. http://pacificcoast.com/

It's a tad rumple/lumpish when the bed is made up but it has that antique bed look. Sort of like puffy clouds.

How about you guys? What is indispensible to your sleep?

I'm glad you finally got the one you wanted. I can't sleep well without my orthodedic pillow. I take it everywhere. Right after we married, we used DH's waterbed a few years - UGH! I hated it, but I wasn't so firmly entrenched in my position as THE LEADER to put my foot down about it. As God is my witness, I'll never again sleep on a water balloon.

Love the picture of that bedroom! I want one.

Right after we moved into this house, with a two month old baby, I asked my dh to go out and buy a bed too. Gawd, I laughed when you described what your dh brought home. He must have taken lessons from mine!

I put up with that d&%*$ bed for 10 d$&%* years. Tried the feather bed, it didn't work. Tried a memory foam thing, worked for a while. Finally, couldn't stand it any longer, and we now have a heavenly sleep # bed. Don't know how I lived without it.

Oh, and I have to have 2 pillows.

Dara, I hate waterbeds too!

THe feather bed looks like heaven! But not my heaven. :-) I think the squishiness of it would drive me nuts. I like a little firmness, but not too hard. Which is why I adore the Sleep Number Bed, too. Have had it about ten years. REALLY miss it when I'm out of town traveling. (Which isn't often, thank goodness.)

Also must have perfectly tucked sheets. The hubby calls me the Princess with the Pea Problem. (No, that's not pee problem.) Except my pea is a wrinkle in the sheet. It'll keep me up all night, and I've been known to get up in the middle of the night and tuck. And it's a pain because standard-size sheets are a little big on the sleep # bed.

I sleep on two pillows and I have two blankets that I've had since I was like 10 that have to be on the bed(or at least 1 of the 2). I'm also really picky about the flat sheet being tucked in just right. If it is coming off the mattress at all, I wake up and will fix it before I can go back to sleep.

Dara-- LOL! You were so nice when you were first married. How sweet! "water balloon" cracked me up. I've never truly "slept" on a water bed. Just bounced on one at a friend's house. I often do needlework in bed at night and I thought that a water bed would be a recipe for disaster. (g)

Helen-- Yeah! I love that too. It's Pulaski's Edwardian collection. My bed is Pulaski but I couldn't find a pic of it online, didn't want to get out of bed and get the camera, so I though this one was scrumptious and dreamy. (g) You know, we almost got a sleep # bed but I couldn't find anyone who had one to tell me if the darned things really work and hold up over the long haul!! So, you're saying yes?

Michele-- Geez! Where were you and Helen when I was trying to dig up people who could confirm the sleep number bed was more than hype!! I'm glad to know it now because I think that's the way we need to go next time. Sounds like the perfect solution.

Also I have a friend who is so particular about her sheet tucking that she even puts a folded pleat in at the foot of the bed before tucking so that toes have room to breath without untucking the whole bed.

Liza!! I have to have two blankets and two pillows too. It's something about the weight of the blankets so that I "feel" tucked up in bed. My husband is hot-natured so sometimes I end up with three blankets (well, mostly) because he peels back one and tosses it over to my side of the bed.

I, too, have a sleep # bed. But i got the one with the big, thick mini-mattress on top. . . which I don't like. Still, I sleep fairly well. But the best thing in the world is the KING-SIZED BED. Thank heaven for it. There is room for me to stack the comforter off me (which the df loves) and still sleep comfortably.

I'm a "sheet only" gal. But I love the looks of the thick comforters and lots of pillows. . . the sumptuous bed is my ideal!

Betina-- I love the king-sized bed. I can spread all my stuff around me (computer, research, needlework, whatever). It is the best thing in the world.

Deb, the sleep number is a dream. I remember we ordered it from a TV commercial. It was like a 90-day free trial thing. We loved it so much, we sent in a check for the whole thing three days after we got it.

Now my next bed will be a sleep number KING size. The queen is much to small. I could use a queen all myself. But in present house, a king would basically fill up the entire bedroom, so I guess I gotta get a new house before I get that bed. Hmm...

What's necessary for sleep?

Drugs! LOL.

I have restless leg syndrome and if I forget my meds, I can forget about sleeping.

I wouldn't mind one of those sleep number beds. Maybe when it's time to replace our current mattress I can convince the DH to get that.
