Debra - MONDAY MORNING CONFESSION

I have become hopelessly addicted to Grey's Anatomy.

There.

I've said it.

It all began with an innocent viewing of an episode at my niece's apartment.

Then, I discovered that NetFlix had Seasons One and Two.

Oh, frabjous joy! I could gulp down episode after episode from the beginning.

Sure Patrick Dempsey is dreamy. McDreamy to be exact.

But I'd known he was starring in the show forever and I'd never made a point to actually catch the show. So, what did catch my attention and hold it?
Characters. I feel in love with the open joy of Izzy, Christina's blunt focus, Dr. Bailey's complex brand of tough love, and even "dark and twisty" Meredith managed to engage my interest.

Then last week, I was out of episodes. Season 3 had just wrapped. The DVD had no release date. All was dark and twisty in my house. Until...

Until I remembered that i-Tunes was just a click away. I bought a season pass to the show and began busily downloading episodes. I am now addicted to i-Tunes as well. It should be called ig-Tunes (instant gratification tunes).

I'm weak. I could have waited for the DVD set to finally be released. That would certainly have saved some bucks, but...life is short. Instant gratification always seems to win with me.

Are you weak? About what?

And if you want to know which female Grey's Anatomy character you are most like go to:
I'm Christina. Like that's any surprise to anyone.

Yes, Deb-- I find myself drawn to "Grey's" in spite of myself. And it has to be the characters-- which means it's some pretty smart writing combined with some really smooth acting. I did the same thing with "Rome" Couldn't wait for the week-to-week re-runs, so I bought the DVD set. Was I ever glad I did! But then, I found myself "thinking Roman" for days after the marathon viewing.

Did you find yourself becoming Christina after the viewing? I think I'm more Izzy. . . except for the drop dead body, of course. She's an emotions first kind of gal. Plus, I sort of fell in love with Denny, too. Started looking for him in other shows and movies.

I've sort of fallen away from TV this past year, which is not a bad thing. But I do sit and watch Grey's if I happen to stumble upon it. Love McDreamy. But even more excited about the spin-off featuring Kate Walsh. I think she's gorgeous, and it looks like her show will be just as fun as Grey's.

What am I weak about regarding TV? I do like to catch me some Entertainment Tonight, cause even though I'm not a gossip magazine kind of reader, the show gives me a fix I probably like to believe I don't need, but really do. :-)
LOST was my must-stop-what-I'm-doing-and-sit-on-the-couch-now show. And now that the season has ended, word is the next season won't debut until next February! Aggh! What will I do?

Hey, Betina, have you seen 'Denny' play the father on Supernatural?

Grey's was my show too, and although it probably was because of the characters, for me it was more because my daughter loved it and it was our time together. I actually can't imagine sitting down to watch tv alone. To me it's bonding time or I might as well be doing something more constructive. So...maybe I'm Christine too. But I feel more like a....George.

I'm here by the way of Cindy's website and thought I'd just drop my two cents on Grey's...I lurve it to little bits and pieces. I'd love to say that I have one favorite character, but there are so many good ones on there. But if I HAD to choose, it'd still be a toss up t'ween George and Bailey. They are both so wonderful and wonderfully written...*sigh*

And yes, whomever mentioned Denny *sigh and melts*

Oh, guys, I loved Denny too ! Was most upset when he died.

Lois-- I felt like I was bonding with my niece while we watched it so I can understand the appeal of watching a show with your daughter.

Heather-- Bailey is a brilliant characterization. Some of the production interviews had said that Sandra Oh (Christina) was originally wanted for Bailey but was interested in Christina. They didn't think they'd be able to make that switch until they saw the gal who plays Bailey.

Susan Kay Law said...

Oh, I watch Grey's, too! Though sometimes the medical stuff makes me yelp, and I don't even know that much about it. (The bone marrow transplant for Izzie's daughter was ridiculous.)

I'm with Heather. My favorites are Bailey, by a long shot, and George.

Okay, I went and took the quiz. I was Miranda.

It's awfully silly how happy that makes me.

Debra Dixon said...

Susie-- LOL! I love it that you are Miranda. (g) I wish I was Miranda. Although Christina is really more me I think. The heart is in there but she just doesn't always think with it.

I haven't done much TV watching this year. Don't know how that happened! I know I would love Grey's Anatomy. Maybe I'll do it the NetFlix way too.

On the instant gratification department...well, that's why I have more hardback romances than I'd like. (They're not as convenient to read.) Just don't have the patience to wait for the mm edition.

All right, I couldn't resist. Took the test, and I'm Addison. My favorite character. And I didn't think I was answering like she would. Cool.

I took the test and I'm Addison, too! Imagine that. Two Addisons on the blog. Then why do I identify with Izzy so much?

Anyway, thanks, Michele for the tip on "Denny." I'm cehcking the TV listings for Supernatural!

I didn't get into Grey's from the beginning, and I tried a couple of episodes last year when I was on the stationary bike. Turned them off after my 1/2 hr was up, which tells me that I'd need to go back to the beginning to get interested. I think I could (from what I saw) but I'm with Lois on getting into it with someone else. And Clyde does not get into the hospital thing. I watched the Clooney seasons of ER fairly religiously, and Clyde just rolled his eyes.

We got hooked on The Sopranos together when a friend who'd taped them loaned us the tapes. Watched the whole first season in a couple of marathon sittings. Waited for season two on dvd. After about season 3 we broke down and got HBO just for the Sopranos. So glad we did--some of the best TV and movies are HBO-generated. (And I'm in the "finale was brilliant" camp. Should we blog on that one on Friday? Any Sopranos fans game?)

So, yeah, I'm seriously hook-able. Didn't like Deadwood at first, but got hooked the last 2 seasons. LOVED Rome. Loved Carnivale--wonder why they canceled it? Haven't gotten into Lost, but I have to limit my addictions. (That's why the HBO series are so good for me--they space them out.)

I try not to miss Stewart and Colbert, even though Clyde only shares occasionally--he generally isn't a fan of satire.

As for the Sopranos--again, it's the writing and the characters. Wanna toss it out here Friday, or will it be talked to death by then?

I don't know whether to be happy or sad about this, but the last series I dropped everything to sit down and watch was Hillstreet Blues. Kinda dates me, doesn't it?

I'm also for the most part instant gratification proof. I can wait for anything except chocolate.

I took the test and I came out as Miranda (Bailey). Kinda surprised me at first, then after a moments thought, yep that's me made over.

hubby and I watched it heavily, but with so many characters and the way they ended Grey's this year, I don't know if it'll rank high on my favorites list next season.

I'm going to have to take this test. More on that later but YES, YES, YES, I'm a Grey-aholoic. God it feels good to go public :o)

I loved the first two seasons of Grey's - I watched one season 2 episode and went and bought season one the next day. I can watch those episodes over and over.

I adored Denny, and started watching Supernatural because of him. Now I'm addicted to that one, even though he was only in a handful of episodes.

Season 3 of Grey's was more hit and miss for me. I may not stick with it this year.

I took the quiz and I'm Miranda.

Debra Dixon said...

Okay, I'm very jealous of Keri and Mary because they are Mirandas like Susie!!

I so loved Denny and was so happy when he did that guest bit in the show Meredith almost died.

Just recently found out he's the dad in Supernatural so I'm going to have to start on that series once I get through with Season 3 of Grey's.

Helen Brenna said...

Okay, so I'm Miranda too. Who's Miranda?

Linda said...

Took the test and I'm like Callie. Hmmm, I kinda thought I'd be Christina. LOL

I became a fan of the show after the first season was over and I caught it in reruns over the summer. Now I set it to record just to make sure I don't miss anything. I even set the finale episode to record 5 minutes longer and I STILL MISSED THE WEDDING or what I have learned was the "not wedding." *sigh*

Helen-- Miranda is the resident who is the boss of the interns. She's the heart and soul of the hospital. The attendings and the Chief of Staff obviously outrank her but they jump when her no-nonsense requests are made of them and she's not afraid to stare them down. She's got little patience for "high school with scapels" as one character tried to explain when talking about what working at a teaching hospital and dating an intern was like.

But Miranda Bailey also has a soft caring side. She's the finest example of tough love I've seen.
