First of all, I’d like to congratulate Pearl! She’s the winner of the colored crystal liqueur set I’m giving away to celebrate the release of UNSCREWED. I need your address, Pearl, so I can send your gift--email me at lgreiman@earthlink.net.
Second, thank you all for entering my little ‘Who is Rivera’ contest. It was tons of fun. Lots of people chimed. Which brings us to our other winner…
Antonio Banderas. He was the man voted most likely to be Lieutenant Jack Rivera’s look-alike. (Although Clive Owen was a close second.) So…in honor of Zorro…and for your viewing pleasure…here he is in living color in Take the Lead, Original Sin, Shrek J , 13th Warrior, Desperado, and Zorro.
So which of his alter-egos do you prefer?

Congratulations Pearl!
I loved Antonio in every movie you've mentioned, except I haven't seen Original Sin. I'd probably have to put Zorro at the top of the list. One of my all-time favorites, though, was Spy Kids. The first one. He was a funny, sexy spy dad. Loved it.
And for anyone who didn't win Lois's contest, I'll be doing another one on 2/13/07!
Congrats, Pearl! And congrats to you, Lois, on the release of Unscrewed! I can't wait to pick up my copy.
And I agree with the take on Antonio B. Yum Yum.
I'm with Helen. I haven't seen Original Sin, so go with Zorro. Gotta, gotta love him. He was also great in Of Love and Shadows (just realized this is from an Isabel Allende novel) with Jennifer Connely. Great, romantic movie. Highly recommend.
Oh, nummy, I'll take all of him. Loved his tormented mariachi in Desperado. Very sexy in Take the Lead. But the Vikings won me over in 13th Warrior. Sigh...
I even liked him in that horrible flick with Melanie Griffith where he played twins, a studious art guy and I can't remember what his alter ego was. It's the voice and the eyes and, ah heck...the whole package. That man smolders!

Michele: I loved him in Desperado too, but recently I saw the first movie in the trilogy, El Mariachi (not in English, not Antonio) and I adored it.
Have you seen it?
Christie, I love El Mariachi, too. Saw it with my son when he was in high school Spanish 5. Great movie. Totally different from Desperado, but great all the same.
I loved Zorro and Desperado equally. Antonio has a unique talent for the comic as well as the smoldering. He can poke fun at his own image as well as do the straight intensity-and-action stuff. Original Sin was okay. . . I mostly hated Angelina Jolie. . . and Antonio would listen to me calling out warnings to the screen. So hard in the loins and so soft in the head. Sigh.
Oh, and Pearl-- congrats!

Okay, that should have read: he wouldn't listen to me yelling at the screen. sheesh.
And for the record, I adored him in Shrek 2. Any actor who is so secure with his masculinity that he'd play a "puss" in boots and lick his privates on screen has got my respect! Not to mention my laughter!
B.
There isn't really much to "not like" about Antonio.
I just went and put "Of Love and Shadows" in my NetFlix cart.
Of course there are 125 movies ahead of it...
I loved him in Original Sin and Zorro. And the one he played with Melanie in. Can't think of the title but he was dating her sister Daryl Hannah in it.
