The Burning Question

What was your best decade? Your teens, 20's, 30's, forties, fifties, sixties? Beyond? And why? In which did you have the most fun? In which did you accomplish the most? In which did you feel most at home with yourself? In which did you realize a dream ambition or put to rest old hurts and baggage?

So far the thirties are all that for me--I'm 31.

I'm with you, Jaye-- the thirties rocked for me. I think I was born to be thirty. I had lost weight, my hair cooperated, I was exercising, my kids were doing well, my hubby was healthy. . . sigh.

Now I'm a little past the 30's, ahem, and am finding plenty to like in the 50 decade. Exercising again. Battling the extra pounds. New love in my life. Beautiful new grandbabies to love. A number of goals achieved and a feeling of peace (at times).

Would I go back? Maybe for a visit. I'll tell you the one decade I wouldn't go back to for love or money-- my teens! And some people say the high school years are the best years of your life. Phew. Not for me.

It only gets better. . .

The 30's were tough years for me. I'd go back to my teens before I'd go back to being 33. Or 34, or 35 ...

20's were awesome, but I'm liking the 40's a lot. The rest of the world might want me to change, but I happen to be feeling pretty comfortable with myself.

16 -21 was a good period for me. when i hit my thirties something weird happened and i think i kind of lost track of who i was. now i'm actually more the person i was at 20 than the person i was at 30 or even 40. although some might argue that i've always been a poop-stirring bitch. :D

Now, Anne. . . I'm here to say I have NEVER heard anybody call you a poo-stirring anything. But I have to say, practice does make perfect. So if you're a poo stirrer, you're a fabulous and very brilliant poo-stirrer. ;)

And just think of what heights you can aspire to in the future! Maybe even politics! LOL! Wow-- you could even be President!

OOPS! Serious rumination alert...

Until 18 months ago, I would have told you that all my decades so far have brought me different dreams and were fabulous. Then my dad died unexpectedly and that event instantly changed everything.

Life is short and I should have been reaching for so much more. Not materially but in terms of life experiences.

I suddenly realized so clearly how short life is. How little time we really have. I expect my next decade to be the best because I know every day, every year, every decade counts.

I think more about where I want to go and if I like the journey it will take to get there.

I'm riding with the top down because it's the only way to go through life!

Deb, I'm hearing you. I lost my beloved dad almost two years ago and life hasn't been the same since. Both good and not-so-good.

Even when you learn those strong lessons, you can sometimes slip back into the day-to-day sameness/numbness and forget to relish every day. I'm working on this. I'm glad you reminded me. . .

Thanks!
