HAPPY HOUR!!

Helen should be here any second, but I'm starting things off with the first round of drinks.

What are you having? What is your favorite drink?

I think they have Karoake at this joint. Anybody up for that?

Confess: Have you ever done Karoake?

I will admit to doing it one time. Boy George's Do You Really Want to Hurt Me. That's a tough one.

oh, and i chose kind of a seedy bar for happy hour. sorry!! i hope Helen doesn't have trouble finding it!

Let's get this party started!

Heck yes, I've sung Karaoke! Get this-- My 81 year old dad went out and bought a Karaoke machine ($300) to impress the ladies. In fairness, he'd always loved to sing and strum a guitar. But as he got older, he liked the singing better than the strumming. So. . . Karaoke! And did he wow the girls!

I inherited the machine a year ago, but I haven't been moved to use it. . . most of his discs were old standards and Kenny Rogers songs. But he did have a party disc or two and I do a pretty mean "Sugar Shack" and "Hey Big Spender!"
One of my all time favorites-- appropriate for a writer-- is "I Will Survive!" I can really belt that one out!

I'm here!! Traffic sucked, of course, so I'm surprised I made it home this soon. Thanks, Anne, for getting things started.

Yes, I've sung Karaoke - Did Girl's Just Wanna Have Fun with my sisters, SIL, and neices at my parent's 50th wedding anniversary. I think they even have it on tape somewhere, and no I'm not telling where. And I did King of the Road at Nye's here in town - THAT was a fun one.

BTW, Anne, where did you bartend? Like it? My husband bartended for a long time and says he still misses it every once in a while.

Boy, you did pick a sleazy place. Cool!

Betina, bring out that karaoke maching when your kids and grandkids are around. They'll like just playing with the microphone. I could also see a New Year's Eve party where that maching could play a central role.

I think Betina's our partier!

Well, heck, I had a great drinking game to play-- but I guess I'll save it for another time. . . say, after Labor day and Anne's and my books come out. We'll need to let off a little steam.

It's called "Who do you do?" And I'm not giving away any more than that. If you guys want to know, I'll only admit that Aniteb was the one who taught it to me. . . and together we got some really well known EDITORS drunk as skunks and played for two hours in a bar. It was a scandal. Fortunately, I got Aniteb's note pad away from her before she managed to blackmail anybody.

Cheers! I'm sippin' a Hard Lemonade. Puttin' the feet up. . .

I opened a bottle of pinot noir, cooking some sweet corn I purchased off a road side stand on the way home from La Crosse. Near the area, btw, that got hit with a tornado within the last hour.

If it was hot and sunny outside, I'd be ready for a gin and tonic.

betina, that game sounds great!!! yes, we have to play it. maybe announce it a few times beforehand.

yes, the weather here is bizarre. it's black as night right now. i have the news on, and there are tornadoes in southwest MN. i keep waiting to hear the emergency sirens. they seem to go off over anything, so i'm surprised they aren't blaring right now.

Just coming back from watching the weather as well. Hail bigger than a golf ball fell on us this afternoon. The Boy's car took a lot of damage; he's miserable. But we got off easy. I see the town right next to us got the same hail and cars everywhere had their windshields knocked out. Whew!

Now we're tracking tornadoes in the southern part of the state. Lots of damage there.

So I'm going for some Voyant to drink, it's chai liquor. Warm that stuff up, pour a little milk in it, and nuuuuummmmy.

voyant? chai? heat. milk. that sounds perfect. where can we get this stuff? any liquor store? or a hippie/earth mother liquor store? ;)

serious drinkers want to know.

Helen Brenna said...

Betina, can we play it online?

And yes, Anne, Betina and Michele need to let off some steam with your books coming out this month.

You three name the night, and I'm there!

Michele Hauf said...

Anne, go to voyantchai.com and you can read all about it. I found it in your standard liquor store. It's good!

Whew! I just got back from the library. No, the real library. Thurday is library day with the granddaughters, and we got rained in. No hail, but sheets of water pouring down those huge windows and pounding the roof!

Yeah, Michel, where do you get this Voyant stuff? Sounds like just the thing. I need to know these things because I can never come up with my order when it's time for an interesting drink. Mojito is my latest choice. Last time we went out to the rez my order for a mojito at the casino got me a line for the book I'm working on now. The bartender called his supervisor out, and she went on the computer. It was the fresh mint that caused the problem.
And the round of teasing--me being the straight man, as always. Anybody ever visit Indian Country? Casinos in the Dakotas are nothing like Mystic Lake. They're more...Indian Country.

Anyhoo, Michele, give me a taste of your chai liquor. Is it a liqueur? Not too much. You don't want me to start singing.

oh, hell yes!
