The Burning Question

This one requires input from all our readers. I'm attempting to compile a DVD collection that would make any romance reader/writer drool. So I need to know, what's your favorite chick flick? If your first choice is already mentioned, tell us your second, or third, whatever.

Mulan. Okay, so it's animated, but what a story!

Nicole, I agree, Mulan was a great movie. I think I liked it much more that my kids did.

I've seen 2 of those 4 John Wayne movies, Candace. Will have to check out the other two.

My favorite is While You Were Sleeping.

Hmm, not much for 'classic' romance tales. I find Practical Magic very romantic because the spell she weaves for the perfect (yet unattainable) man at the beginning actually comes true in the end.

City of Angels is a MAJOR tear jerker. I always cry and I've seen it dozens of times. Mr. and Mrs. Plate. Sigh...

Of course, Last of the Mohicans, because he will find her!

And then there's Dangerous Liaisons, which you wouldn't think is a romance, but the two main characters destroy one another only because they truly do love one another and are not willing to admit it.

I adored Ashley Judd and Hugh Jackman in "Someone Like You." Not saying it didn't have a few problems, but the hunky, philandering Jackman was fabulous.

"Phantom of the Opera." Wow. Gerard Butler. Need I say more?

"10 Things I Hate About You." Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger (before blonding). The best ever contemporary redux of the Taming of the Shrew. Hysterical in places, touching in others, and one of the best "parent" moments on film!

I'm with Michele on "Last of the Mohicans." Sad but wonderful.

And last but not least, "The Mummy," which was my kind of romance! Adventure and action. . . sand in yer skivvies!

Hmmm, have never thought of Dangerous Liaisons in that way before and have never seen Someone Like You.

I love this! You guys are giving me all kinds of ideas.

i'm not a big chick flick person, but how about gone with the wind... and....hmmmm... a life less ordinary? maybe alfred hitchcock's marnie? that's probably not a chick flick.

Also really liked "Must Love Dogs" with Diane Lane and John Cusak. Oh, and the older flick: "Fools Rush In" with Matthew Perry and Salma Hyek (sp?). I even bought that one!

OH! Also, for one of the funniest takes on romance, the flick "Bedazzled," with Brendan Frazier. Everything he does, including his pact with the sexy she-devil, is motivated by his love for the lovely "Allison." And there are hysterical riffs on the ways a guy would try to change himself to be worthy of his love. Great ending, too. Not, however, a typical romance.

I hate it when I have to come up with titles. I can't remember a dang thing until days later. So let's see...Dirty Dancing. Dangerous Beauty. The Long Hot Summer (both versions, but I'm a Paul Newman fan from way back). um um um...
