Candace is Feeling Cranky

I woke up this morning with that tickle-in-the-throat and cotton-in-the-head feeling that means I'm coming down with a cold. I immediately desolved an Airborne tablet in water and used it to wash down a couple of extra Vitamin C tablets. I put a Zicam swab up my nose. And I am sucking on a Zinc lozenge and sipping green tea with honey as I type this. Despite these precautions, I still feel like I'm coming down with a cold. No, that's not quite right. I feel like I have a cold. And that makes me cranky.

I haven't got time to be sick! It's the holidays and I've got stuff to do. Oh, the tree is up and the house (inside) is decorated, and all my Christmas shopping is done. But the outside decorations aren't finished, yet, and I have to supervise or else my husband will put every, single lighted Christmas figure we have (and we have too many! and some are animated!) on the front lawn and the home owner's association will send us a letter. (The president of our home owner's association bears a frightening resemblance to the one in the movie "Over the Hedge" and once suggested that everyone in the neighborhood should have to plant the same flowers in the front yard for "uniformity." But I digress...)

The point is, I don't have time for a cold. The Christmas packages have to be mailed. And I still have the cards to do. And the baking. And then there are the two looming work deadlines, projects that need to get done before everything closes down for the week between Christmas and New Years, and... Well, you're all overachieving women. You get the picture.

Simply put, the holidays as we know them here in the Schuler household will not happen if I give in to this creeping pestilence.

So...any surefire methods for wrestling a cold into submission? Or for masking the symptoms so they don't interfere with my schedule?

Candace-- Much sympathy! About the only way I've been able to short-cut a cold is to go immediately to bed (after all the appropriate medications) and get an extra 4-6 hours of sleep. Seems to allow the body to kick the cold's butt so that it doesn't hang on for two weeks. But alas...here at Christmas...you probably don't have the time to get that extra daytime sleep.

Everything that you've done, plus ... Echinacea - liquid form - the sooner the better, several times a day. Extra C, several times per day. Hot tub. Extra sleep.

Hope you feel better, Candace. There's nothing worse than feeling crappy when you don't have the luxury of babying yourself!
